Created after relocating to Torrance, California, the Torrance series continues Thomas Zanz’s early investigations into predetermined color and spontaneous gesture. Building upon the discoveries of the Northern series, these paintings introduce greater movement and visual complexity while further developing the experimental process that would later become F.O.L.P. (Figure of Limited Predictability).
Together, the Northern and Torrance series represent the earliest chapter in the evolution of the artist’s visual language.
