The Sunrise Series pairs two independent forces: a text phrase that sparks self-generated imagery, and a F.O.L.P.—a Figure of Limited Predictability—formed when hand-mixed pigment leaves a shaped color wand and reveals its form upon landing. Each text phrase offers a neutral suggestion, allowing the viewer’s own mind to create the first image. The F.O.L.P., meanwhile, unfolds as a color event guided by viscosity, motion, and physics rather than full intention.

Across the twelve works, the color relationships move through a loose sequence influenced by the physical hue wheel, with many mixtures resting in tertiary interactions. The white gesso ground—with its burnished black edge and traditional black–white–black frame—provides the environment in which each F.O.L.P. (or F.O.L.P.s) reveals itself. Within this environment, text and form hold equal but independent weight. Their tension reflects how modern perception divides between seeing and reading, and how information competes for our attention. Sunrise seeks the moment where those forces briefly align—and where simplicity becomes its own challenge.
