Beautiful-9 is a series of 9 paintings exploring ideas of sunrises, still lifes, beaches, landscapes, bouquets, nudes, portraits, and sunsets. Dimensionally all the paintings are square to explore square traditional widely popular subject matters in painting. Each of the 9 paintings has one of the subject matters written in white lettering. When I view a painting and read the words "a beautiful sunrise" I have multiple ideas of sunrises flickering in my mind.
To explore this idea further, a film was created exploring the ideas of sunrises, still lifes, beaches, landscapes, bouquets, nudes, and sunsets by using images ranging from children's drawings to master works of art to short film clips. From sunrise to sunset it's about a 6-minute loop. It plays on a television which was integrated into the "beautiful film" painting (please see photo).
In the "Beautiful Nude" painting an iPod and speakers were integrated into its inside and it continually plays music at the volume of raindrops. The idea was not only to mix the color form with the word suggestion but also mix it with sound. (Please see the film and photos).
As an installation painting, the 9 paintings are hung overlapped and displayed in an arch like the sun moving across the sky from sunrise to sunset (please see the last photo in this gallery).
As these paintings are disbursed they create a beautiful place!
